Operator Training and Competence

They have been doing it for a year is not an answer a client, an insurer or an approver accepts. Uncrewed operations have no long-established certificate to point at, so the operator has to define competence, assess it, and hold the evidence.

What gets done

  • Competence framework. The roles, what each must be able to do, and the standard for each.
  • Training programme design. Syllabus, materials, practical exercises, and simulator or on-water time.
  • Assessment and sign-off. How someone is judged competent, by whom, and how that is recorded.
  • Records and revalidation, so competence does not expire unnoticed the week before an audit.
  • Delivery of training to your team, and train-the-trainer so you can keep running it without paying a consultant every intake.
  • Alignment with the published expectations on uncrewed vessel operator competency, so the framework is recognisable to a reviewer.

What you get

A written framework and role matrix, course material and assessment records that belong to you, and evidence you can hand to a client or an approver without assembling it in a panic.

How it runs

Usually a fixed piece of work to build the framework, then either delivery of the training or a handover, depending on whether you want to run it in-house. Most clients want the handover.
