Fractional Head of USV Operations

You have engineers, you have a vessel, and you have a growing list of things that are nobody's job. It becomes a full-time role long before it becomes a full-time salary.

What gets owned

  • The operating documents and their revision cycle, so procedures stay current instead of ageing quietly in a shared drive.
  • Competence and training. What each role needs, how it is assessed, and where the evidence lives.
  • Trials and campaign planning, and the go or no-go decisions inside them.
  • The approval case, and the relationships with flag, class, ports and clients that go with it.
  • Incident, near-miss and observation follow-up, and actually closing the loop.
  • The operational voice in design reviews, bids and client conversations, so a commitment made in a meeting can still be met at sea.
  • Building the team you will eventually hire: the specification, the selection, and a handover that works.

What you get

Continuity, rather than a report. The same person in your management meetings, on your document approvals, and on the end of the phone when something goes wrong at two in the morning.

How it runs

A set number of days a month, month by month with a notice period, written from the start to hand over cleanly to your own hire when the time comes. Remote by default, on site when it matters.

If the right answer is that you should hire someone permanent now, you will be told that.
